Rush typically happens around the beginning of every semester depending on the organization. It consists of different events for women who are interested in joining to participate in. Although our rush events are not mandatory, they give those who are interested the opportunity to learn more about our sorority and to get to know us, whether or not they become a part of the sisterhood. Ideally, rush is a time for potential new members and sisters to meet one another and see if they would be a good fit.
Unlike most other sororities, rushing is absolutely free of charge. Everything from food to transportation is provided by the sorority.
The best time depends on you and is a personal decision for you to make. Each pledge class is comprised of girls of all ages; therefore, there is no definite answer. The best we can offer are our own experiences, so feel free to ask individual sisters about their choices. We hold Rush Week twice a year, during the second week of Fall and Winter quarter should you decide to wait. Please check our website periodically for updates on upcoming events.
Following an informal interview, the bidding process begins. The purpose of the interviews is to get to know you on a more personal and professional level. There is no obligation in joining after signing up for an interview. Upon acceptance of a bid, a rushee becomes a pledge of the sorority.
During pledging, pledges of Delta Sigma Psi will learn the traditions and history of our sorority as well as build the bonds of sisterhood within the pledge class and with actives. Lasting around 9 weeks, the pledge period is a time where the best memories and friendships of your college experience are made.
Like any other extracurricular activity, it is up to you how much time you devote to pledging – the more you put in, the more you get out of it. Pledging does take time, but it is definitely manageable, even with a busy schedule. We understand that we are all here at SDSU for an education and at no time will we ask you to compromise your academic goals.
